Sacred Heart Convent School, Raikot is an English Medium Co Educational School affiliated to ICSE, New Delhi under its syllabus and was established in 1998 by the Diocese of Jalandhar given the patronage and guidance of RT Rev. Dr. Symphorian Keeparth, the then Bishop of Jalandhar and by the sustained effort and hard work of its first Director, Rev. Fr. Xavier Thazhathuveetil, RT Rev. Dr. Franco Mulakkal, the Bishop of the Diocese of Jalandhar is the current patron of the School. The Diocese of Jalandhar is a Catholic Christian Minority Religious and Charitable Society registered under the Societies Registration Act of 1860 (Act No XXI of 1860)vide No 134 of 1957-1958 and hence the School enjoys all the rights and privileges of a minority institution as enshrined under Articles 29 and 30 of the Indian Constitution. Although it is owned and managed by a Religious Minority Community with the primary objective of serving and imparting education to Christian Children, admission to the School is opento boys and girls of other communities of all religions, caste, creed or linguistic sects who wish to get ICSE education with full freedom and liberty to practice their faiths in dignity and respect.
For the general administration of the various educational institutions of the Diocese of Jalandhar a “Diocesan Board of Education” has been constituted. All the educational, managerial and administrative policies are formulated by this Board in consultation with the respective Directors and Principals (who are the overall in-charges of the individual educational institution in a particular place)of its various member institutions
Sacred Heart Convent School,Raikot is locally administered by the Franciscan Sisters of our Lady of Graces under the guidance and direction of a Managing Director appointed by the President of the Diocese of Jalandhar. The Religious Sisters who are serving in various Christian Institutions in Punjab and elsewhere are people who are voluntarily vowed to God to lead a holy and dedicated life of selfless service to their fellow human beings. In order to surrender themselves totally to the love of God and service of humanity they renounce family life and live in religious communities known as Convents, a home of prayer and serenity. The School Management is committed to the cause of education as a mission of Christ, the Divine Teacher.
Affiliation and Course of Study
The School follows the Education Pattern set by the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations, New Delhi. The University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate with the assistance of Inter State Board for Anglo-Indian Education established the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations in 1958. In 1973 the Govt. of India recognized the Council as a body to conduct public examinations in India through an Act of the Parliament and the Council is appointed as one of the Indian Examination Bodies. Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) is recognized by all the Education Boards in the Country and by many in Overseas too. The School prepares students for the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education(ICSE)New Delhi, from the Nursery Classes to 10th Standard and every student is required to take the following subjects as course of study:
- Science (Physics, Chemistry &Biology )
- History, Civics , Geography
- Physical Education/Computer Science
- Socially Useful Productive Work and Community Service
- Environmental Education (from classes 1st to 8th only)
- ICSE pass certificate will be awarded to candidates who attain the pass mark for all subjects. However it is compulsory to secure a pass grade in S.U.P.W.
